Reading Mary Roach's fascinating _Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers_. On pages 52-53, I learn that Chinese physician Huang Ti figured out blood circulation some 4,000 years before William Harvey. Not surprised China was first (again), but astounded by how much.

The Raven takes many details from Poe's life and work, but it has nothing of his spirit. The plot lacks intelligence, the characters lack credibility, and the dialogue is interesting only for the occasional anachronism.
I had my doubts when I read that John Cusack was playing Poe. I like Mr. Cusack very much, but his range of genial bemusement to angry bafflement might not be sufficient to capture the complexity of Edgar Allan Poe's character.
Not that the script gave him a chance to prove me wrong.
